Northern Rivers Tip Hours 2026: Is the Tip Open Today?
"Is the Lismore tip open today?" gets asked on Facebook about once a week, and the council pages that should answer it don't agree with each other. Ballina's tip page says one set of hours and its fees page says another. So here are the Northern Rivers tip hours for every facility we use, in one table, checked August 2026. Bookmark it before you load the trailer, because the weekend hours are shorter than most people expect and every tip except Stotts Creek shuts on public holidays.
Is the tip open today?
On a normal weekday, every tip in the region is open. On weekends: Ballina is open 8am to 4pm both days, Lismore 9am to 4pm, Byron (Myocum) only 8.30am to 11.30am, Nammoona and Evans Head 8.30am to 4.30pm, Kyogle 9am to 4pm and Stotts Creek 9am to 3.45pm. On a public holiday, Stotts Creek is the only one open (except Good Friday and Christmas Day). Nimbin Transfer Station is Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday only.

The hours that catch people out
Byron's weekend window is three hours. Myocum opens at 8.30 and shuts at 11.30 on Saturday and Sunday. If you're loading a trailer in Ocean Shores at 10am on a Sunday, you're already late. This is the single biggest reason Byron Shire people ring us on a weekend.
Kyogle closes at midday on weekdays. Monday to Friday it's 7.30am to noon. Weekends are the full day, 9 to 4. On top of that, the landfill has been running at reduced capacity since Cyclone Alfred damaged the cell in 2025 and, as of the council page in August 2026, is only taking small household quantities (bins and bags), no furniture, timber, bricks or bulky household waste.
Evans Head is shut three days a week. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday it's closed. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday it's 8.30 to 4.30.
Nimbin is three days a week. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 8am to 3pm, and it doesn't take e-waste, tyres, gas bottles, paint or building rubble at all. Anything bulky from Nimbin goes to Lismore, 40 minutes away.
Lismore's weekday start is early and its finish is early. 7.30am to 3.30pm. Weekend hours are 9 to 4. Note the site is under upgrade works from August 2026 to February 2027, so expect changed traffic flow on site.
Stotts Creek stops taking general waste at 3.45pm and locks the gate at 4pm. Asbestos is weekdays only, to 2.30pm.
Public holiday tip hours
Simple rule for the Northern Rivers: assume the tip is closed on a public holiday. Ballina, Lismore, Nimbin, Byron, Nammoona, Evans Head and Kyogle all close. Byron makes a point of saying it closes on all public holidays, including the ones that fall on a weekend. Kyogle also shuts for the Union Picnic Day.
The one exception is Stotts Creek in the Tweed, which runs weekend hours (9am to 3.45pm) on public holidays and only closes on Good Friday and Christmas Day.
Long weekends are exactly when people want to clear out the shed, which is why the Tuesday after a long weekend is the busiest morning of the year at Ballina. If you'd rather not queue, we work Saturdays and Sundays; that's what our tip runs service is for.
Tip shop hours (different from the gate)
The tip shops keep their own hours, and they're shorter:
- Salvage Shed, Ballina: Tue to Fri 8.30am to 3.30pm, Sat and Sun 10am to 3pm.
- Revolve Shop, Lismore: Wed and Fri 9am to 2pm, Sat 9am to 1pm.
- Re-Market, Myocum: on site at the Byron tip.
- Evans Head tip shop: Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun 9am to 4pm.
- Kyogle tip shop (Kyogle Together): Thu to Sat 9am to 12 noon.
- JUNKtion, Stotts Creek: Wed to Fri 8.30am to 3pm, Sat 9am to 3pm.
- Nammoona tip shop: limited, roughly two Thursdays and Saturdays a month 10am to 2pm.
Before you drive out there
Three things to check on top of the hours:
- Is the item accepted? Nimbin refuses e-waste, Kyogle is currently refusing bulky waste, Ballina refuses asbestos. Each tip page lists what's refused.
- What will it cost? Fees are by weight at most gates. Compare them in Northern Rivers tip fees.
- Have you got a voucher? Lismore, Byron and Kyogle Shire households do. Ballina doesn't. Check tip vouchers in the Northern Rivers before you pay cash.
Hours change (usually at 1 July with the new fee schedule, and at short notice after storms), so the council pages are the final word: Ballina Resource Recovery Centre fees and hours, Byron Shire Resource Recovery Centre and Kyogle waste facility and transfer stations.
