What a 6x4 trailer load costs here

6x4 trailer, ~350 kg mixed household waste — about ~$142 (unverified rate) at the gate.

Councils quote per 100 kg, not per trailer, so we did the sum. That's the gate fee only — add fuel, your time and the queue.

Getting there

The Evans Head tip is the Evans Head Waste Transfer Station on Broadwater–Evans Head Road, five minutes out of the village on the way to Broadwater. It's open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 8.30am–4.30pm, and closed Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and public holidays. Phone 02 6660 0309. There's a tip shop on site, open the same four days 9–4.

It's a transfer station, not a landfill — everything is trucked on to Nammoona at Casino, which is why it runs the same Richmond Valley fee schedule. Woodburn, Broadwater, Coraki and Wardell locals use it as their nearest gate; Wardell is about the same distance from the Ballina tip.

Before you go

The fees below are Richmond Valley Council's 2026/27 schedule, shared with Nammoona. They were extracted from the council's Revenue Policy PDF and haven't been hand-checked, so ring 02 6660 0309 if the exact dollar matters.

Figures as extracted, August 2026:

  • General mixed waste: about $405 a tonne, minimum about $17. Per load: car about $36, ute about $76, trailer about $124.
  • Green waste: about $129 a tonne.
  • Mattresses: about $40 each.
  • Fridges and whitegoods: about $34 each — ask about a degassing certificate.
  • Car tyres: about $12 each.
  • Free: e-waste and scrap metal per the Richmond Valley schedule. The Community Recycling Centre for paint, oils, gas bottles and batteries is at Nammoona, not here — check before you bring problem waste.
  • Vouchers: none. Richmond Valley doesn't issue tip vouchers.
  • Council cleanup: none listed on the council site.

Sort scrap metal out before you go. A lot of Evans Head's older housing stock and caravan-park sheds throw up metal, and it's free.

What a trailer load costs here

A level 6x4 trailer of mixed household rubbish is about 350 kg. On the per-tonne rate that's 0.35 t × $405 = about $142 at the gate (figures as extracted, August 2026). The per-load trailer rate is about $124, so ask at the gate which applies — for a level trailer the flat rate is usually the cheaper one. Heaped, around 500 kg, is about $203 by weight. The same trailer of green waste is 0.35 t × $129 = about $45.

Pull 100 kg of metal and e-waste out and you pay on 250 kg, about $101.

That's the gate only — and only on a Wednesday, Friday or the weekend. Or it's from $170 and we do it — both of us, all the loading, sorted so the metal goes in free, tip fee included, priced on site in front of you.

Frequently asked questions

What days is the Evans Head tip open?

Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 8.30am to 4.30pm. It's closed Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and all public holidays. If you turn up on a Thursday with a trailer, the nearest open gate is Ballina (30 minutes) or Nammoona at Casino.

Is it the same price as the Casino tip?

Yes — Evans Head and Nammoona run the same Richmond Valley fee schedule: about $405 a tonne for mixed waste or about $124 per trailer load, about $129 a tonne for green waste, about $40 a mattress. The difference is that Nammoona is open seven days and has the Community Recycling Centre for paint, oils and gas bottles; Evans Head doesn't.

Can I take a load from Woodburn or Coraki here?

Yes, there's no residency test at the gate. Woodburn is about fifteen minutes away, Coraki about twenty-five. For flood-rebuild clear-outs in those towns the Evans Head gate is the closest one on the days it's open; on other days it's Ballina or Lismore. If you'd rather not do the run, we cover all three towns.
