Byron-side prices: Ocean Shores loads pay Byron gate fees, which run 10–15% higher. Every price includes the two of us, loading, tip fees and a sweep-up. Heavy or dense loads are priced on site the same way.
Tip runs in Ocean Shores
Ocean Shores is Byron Shire's biggest suburb and it's built on a hill. Tip runs Ocean Shores way start with getting the trailer up a steep driveway off Rajah Road or Orana Road, and most of what we take out was stored under the house on the low side. From there it's 15 minutes to the Byron Resource Recovery Centre at Myocum, back through Brunswick Valley. Myocum weighs the trailer in and out and charges $39.50 for every 100 kg of general waste in 2026/27, minimum $18 (checked August 2026). A typical Ocean Shores garage load, a third of a tonne or a bit more, lands somewhere between $120 and $140 at the gate. Mattresses add $40 apiece and fridges $50, while sorted scrap metal is $4.50 per 100 kg, close enough to free.
The estate went up in the 1970s and a lot of the original owners are still here, so rubbish removal Ocean Shores is heavy on downsizing, deceased estates and the garage that's been full since the golf club was new. Families in the newer parts give us moving-day rubbish and kids' furniture. Down on the flat at South Golden Beach we're still clearing bits left over from the 2022 Marshalls Creek flood, and at New Brighton it's old beach-shack fit-outs coming out during rebuilds.
Timing matters here because the Myocum gate is only open 8.30am to 11.30am on weekends, closed public holidays. We load Ocean Shores jobs early or stage them for a Sunday morning drop. Ocean Shores is 50 minutes from our Ballina base, so we pair it with Mullumbimby and Byron jobs on the same day; book a couple of days ahead where you can.
What Byron Shire Council will and won't take
Ocean Shores is Byron Shire, so there's no council kerbside bulky collection. Each rateable property gets two $50 vouchers a year for the Myocum tip, plus a free weekday trailer for residents who can tow it. The tip takes furniture, whitegoods, mattresses, garden and renovation waste but not asbestos or liquids. Nature-strip dumping in Ocean Shores draws the same fines as the rest of the shire.
Reuse before you dump
- The Re-Market tip shop at Myocum takes usable furniture, tools and homewares. Good pieces from a downsizing move go there before anything goes over the weighbridge.
- Byron Community Recycling Centre at the tip takes paint, oils, gas bottles, batteries and e-waste free.

Is rubbish removal cheaper in Ocean Shores than Byron Bay?
It's the same from-price, $155, because both use the Myocum tip and both are in Byron Shire. What changes the total is the load, not the suburb: how full the trailer is, whether there are mattresses or fridges, and how far we have to carry. Can you get stuff out from under a house on the hill?
Yes. Under-house storage on the low side of a sloping Ocean Shores block is the most common pickup we do here. We carry it up to the trailer at the top of the driveway. If it's a long or awkward carry that's priced on site the same way as everything else, and you'll see it on the itemised quote.
Do you cover South Golden Beach and New Brighton?
Both, at the Ocean Shores price. South Golden Beach still has the odd flood-affected clear-out from 2022, and New Brighton's older shacks throw up fit-out rubbish during renovations. Both are flat, which makes loading easier than the hill streets, but the beachside roads are narrow and sandy in places. Same crew, same Myocum tip, same weekend gate hours apply.
What's the weekend cut-off at the Myocum tip?
The gate shuts at 11.30am on Saturdays and Sundays, and the tip is closed on public holidays. We aim to load Ocean Shores jobs first thing so the trailer's at the weighbridge before the gate closes. If it's an afternoon job we'll tell you it goes in Sunday or Monday morning, but it leaves your place the day we come.
