Tip runs in Lismore
Lismore loads go to the Lismore Recycling and Recovery Centre on Wyrallah Road in East Lismore, five to ten minutes from the CBD, North and South Lismore and the Basin. Tip runs Lismore are a bit different to the coast because this tip charges by the tonne and rewards sorting. For 2026/27 (checked August 2026) unsorted household waste is $410 a tonne with a $15 minimum, but a self-sorted load where at least half is recoverable is $300 a tonne. We sort on the trailer, so a full 6x4 load of mixed rubbish from a Lismore house, around 300 to 350 kg, is closer to $90 to $105 at the gate than the $125 to $145 it would be unsorted. Green waste is $120 a tonne and mattresses are $39 each. Weekend hours are Saturday and Sunday 9am to 4pm, closed public holidays.
Rubbish removal Lismore still means flood work. The Basin, North and South Lismore and the low streets of the CBD went under in February 2022, and the clean-up hasn't finished: houses being raised with everything from underneath pulled out, buyback homes being emptied before they're moved or demolished, water-damaged furniture that's been sitting in a shed since. Add the normal run of a regional city, with SCU students moving out of Girards Hill and East Lismore share houses at the end of semester, and estate clear-outs on the older streets in Lismore Heights.
Council started upgrade works at the tip in August 2026 that run to February 2027, so expect a changed layout and the odd queue at the weighbridge. That's our problem, not yours. Lismore is 35 minutes from our Ballina base, so it's from $170 here.
What Lismore City Council will and won't take
Lismore City Council has no scheduled kerbside bulky collection. Instead, each household can apply for two $82 waste vouchers a financial year, valid for 30 days at the Lismore tip or Nimbin transfer station, from a capped pool that runs out some months. The tip takes household waste, green waste, mattresses and whitegoods, and its Community Recycling Centre takes paint, oils and batteries free. Dumping on the kerb is illegal in Lismore like everywhere else in the region.
Reuse before you dump
- The Revolve Shop at the Lismore tip takes usable furniture, homewares and building materials, but the hours are short: Wednesday and Friday 9am to 2pm, Saturday 9am to 1pm. Anything good from a Saturday job gets there before one.
- Lismore Community Recycling Centre at the same site takes household chemicals, paint, gas bottles and e-waste free.

Lismore questions
Do you take flood-damaged furniture from Lismore?
Yes. Water-damaged lounges, swollen chipboard, mouldy mattresses and carpet all go to Wyrallah Road as general waste. If it's been drying in a shed since 2022 it's usually light and easy. The one thing we can't carry is asbestos, which turns up in older flood-repaired homes; we'll tell you on site if we think something needs testing first.
Can I use my Lismore waste vouchers on your load?
The $82 vouchers are issued to the household and presented at the weighbridge, so they normally can't be transferred to us. If you've got a voucher and a trailer, use it. If you don't have the trailer or the time, that's us, and the gate fee is already in our price.
Why does sorting the load matter at the Lismore tip?
Because Lismore charges $410 a tonne for an unsorted load and $300 a tonne if at least half of it can be recovered. We split metal, green waste, cardboard and clean timber out as we load, so your rubbish goes over the weighbridge at the cheaper rate. That saving is built into the on-site quote you see before we start.
Will the tip upgrade works affect my job?
Council's works at Wyrallah Road run from August 2026 to about February 2027. The tip stays open but the layout changes and there can be queues at the weighbridge. That's on us to deal with; your price and pickup time don't change. If a particular day looks bad we'll shift to a Sunday morning drop.
