Kyogle tip: hours, fees, what you can take

What a 6x4 trailer load costs here
6x4 trailer, ~350 kg mixed household waste (flat 7x5 load rate) — about $48 in-LGA / $80 outside-LGA — bulky items currently refused at the gate.
Councils quote per 100 kg, not per trailer, so we did the sum. That's the gate fee only — add fuel, your time and the queue.

Tip vouchers
One $50 waste voucher per rateable property per year — covers one 7x5 trailer or ute load, or smaller loads to $50; can be used on mattresses or fridges. Cannot combine voucher and cash in one transaction. Proof of residency required for in-LGA pricing; outside-LGA schedule is roughly 1.7x.
Getting there
The Kyogle tip is the Kyogle Landfill Facility on Runnymede Road, five minutes from town. Weekdays it's open 7.30am to 12 noon only; weekends 9am–4pm; closed public holidays and Union Picnic Day. Phone 02 6632 3002. There's a tip shop (run by Kyogle Together) and a Community Recycling Centre on site. Kyogle Council also runs transfer stations at Bonalbo (Wed and Sat 9–4), Mallanganee (Thu and Sun 9–4) and Woodenbong (Tue and Sat 9–4).
The big one: the landfill cell was damaged by Cyclone Alfred in March 2025, and as of late August 2026 the council page still says it's only accepting small household quantities — bins and bags. No bulky household waste (furniture, mattresses-as-bulk, toys, polystyrene, glass, bricks, concrete, timber, tiles) and no commercial loads. Recyclables, green waste, scrap metal, tyres, fridges and CRC items are still taken.
While that stands, a Kyogle shed clean-out has to go to Nammoona at Casino (35 minutes) or Lismore (an hour) — which is exactly the run we do.
Before you go
Kyogle is the only tip in the region that charges by the load rather than the kilo, with a separate (roughly 1.7×) schedule for anyone from outside the LGA. Bring proof of residency for the in-LGA rate. Figures checked August 2026:
- In-LGA general waste: bag $1, 240 L bin $10, sedan or wagon $27, 7x5 ute or trailer $48, 8x5 $73, 10x5 tandem $122, or $292 a tonne for anything bigger.
- Sorted loads (at least half recyclables) get 50% off the load fee. Sorted recyclables or clean rubble $147 a tonne.
- In-LGA green waste: sedan or 7x5 trailer $10, 8x5 $21, 10x5 $42, or $95 a tonne.
- Mattresses (in-LGA): single $21, double $29, queen or king $34.
- Fridges and whitegoods (in-LGA): free.
- Car tyres: $16 each.
- Outside the LGA: bag $2, 7x5 trailer $80, 10x5 $204, $418 a tonne, double mattress $42.
- Free: clean scrap metal, whitegoods and air-conditioners (residents), e-waste, oil and paint up to 20 L, batteries, gas bottles, smoke detectors, fluoro bulbs, fire extinguishers, and a household asbestos test kit for residents.
- Voucher: one $50 waste voucher per rateable property per year — covers one 7x5 trailer or ute load, or smaller loads up to $50, and can be used on a mattress or fridge. Can't be combined with cash in one transaction. Excludes asbestos, hazardous waste and dead animals.
Kyogle has no kerbside bulky-waste collection.
What a trailer load costs here
This is the cheapest gate in the region if you live in Kyogle Shire and the load is allowed in. A level 6x4 trailer of general household rubbish — call it 350 kg — is a flat $48 as a "small ute or trailer" load, whatever it weighs (checked August 2026). Sort it so half is recyclable and it's $24. Green waste in the same trailer is $10. Hand over your $50 voucher and the whole general-waste trailer is covered.
From outside the shire, the same trailer is $80.
The catch is the bulky-waste restriction: right now a trailer of old furniture isn't accepted here at all, and the nearest gate that takes it is Nammoona at about $124–142 a trailer plus 70 minutes' driving each way. That's the honest comparison. It's from $170 and we do it — both of us, all the loading, the drive to whichever tip will take it, tip fee included, priced on site in front of you.

Frequently asked questions
Why isn't the Kyogle tip taking household waste?
Cyclone Alfred damaged the landfill cell in March 2025. Since then the council has only accepted small quantities of general waste — bins and bags — and no bulky items like furniture, timber, bricks or polystyrene. Recyclables, green waste, metal, fridges and tyres are still accepted. Check the council page or ring 02 6632 3002 before you load a trailer.
Do Kyogle residents get a tip voucher?
Yes — one $50 waste voucher per rateable property per year. It covers one 7x5 trailer or ute load of general waste, or a mattress or fridge, at the landfill or a transfer station. It can't be split with cash in the same visit, and it doesn't cover asbestos or hazardous waste. Give it to us and the gate fee comes off your price.
Is the Kyogle tip open on Saturday?
Yes, 9am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday. Weekdays are mornings only, 7.30am to noon. It's closed on public holidays and Union Picnic Day. Bonalbo, Mallanganee and Woodenbong transfer stations each open two days a week — check the days before you drive.
