Tip runs in Mullumbimby

Mullumbimby is the closest of our towns to a tip. The Byron Resource Recovery Centre at Myocum is ten minutes from Burringbar Street, so tip runs Mullumbimby are quick turnarounds even when the load has come out of the hills. Gate fees in 2026/27 are $39.50 per 100 kg of general waste, $18 minimum (checked August 2026). Call a heaped 6x4 of hills-shed rubbish 300 to 350 kg and you're looking at roughly $120 to $140 over the weighbridge, less if there's a lot of metal in it, because scrap goes in at $4.50 per 100 kg. Weekends the gate is only open 8.30am to 11.30am, closed public holidays, so a Mullum job booked for a Saturday afternoon goes to the tip Sunday morning. We tell you that up front.

Rubbish removal Mullumbimby splits into town and hills. In town, the flat streets near the Brunswick River and the Left Bank went under in the 2022 flood, and years on we're still doing the last of the rebuild clear-outs: water-damaged cupboards pulled out during a late renovation, the shed contents that were never sorted, the raised house's old under-floor junk. Up Main Arm, Wilsons Creek, Huonbrook and Palmwoods it's acreage work. Long dirt driveways, causeways, a gate with a padlock, and a pile that's part farm shed, part building leftovers, part twenty years of a family living on the land. We sort on site so the metal and green go in cheaper.

Mullum is 45 minutes from our Ballina base, so we group hills jobs on the same day. Book a day or two ahead and we'll line them up.

What Byron Shire Council will and won't take

Mullumbimby is Byron Shire, which means no council kerbside bulky pickup. Council gives every rateable property two $50 vouchers a year for the Myocum tip and lends a free 8x5 trailer to residents on weekdays if you can tow it. The tip accepts furniture, mattresses, whitegoods, garden and reno waste; it refuses asbestos, tyres on vouchers, and liquids. Dumping on the roadside up the valleys is fined like anywhere else in the shire.

Reuse before you dump

  • The Re-Market at the Myocum tip is ten minutes away and takes usable furniture, tools and building materials. Farm-shed finds in good condition go there first.
  • Byron Community Recycling Centre at the tip takes paint, oil, gas bottles and batteries free, which is handy for shed clear-outs.

Mullumbimby questions

Do you still take flood-damaged stuff from Mullumbimby?

Yes. Water-damaged furniture, mouldy cupboards, ruined carpet and the shed contents that were never dealt with all go to Myocum as general waste. If it's been sitting for years it's usually dry and easy to handle. Anything with asbestos, like old fibro sheeting from a flood repair, can't go on our trailer; we'll point you to the right path for that.

Can you get up Main Arm and Wilsons Creek?

Yes, a ute and 6x4 trailer handles the dirt roads and most causeways in normal conditions. After heavy rain we'll ask about the crossings before we commit. Send us the rough location when you text and we'll tell you straight if there's an access problem.

Do you take green waste from a hills block?

We do, and it's cheaper than general rubbish at Myocum. Prunings, palm fronds, lantana and storm debris are fine. Big stumps and logs cost more at the gate. Keep it separate from the general pile and the on-site price reflects it.

Can I use my Byron Shire waste vouchers on your load?

The $50 vouchers are tied to your rates notice and need to be presented by the household at the gate, so they can't normally be handed to us. If you want to use them, the free council trailer on a weekday is the way. We're the option for weekends and heavy lifting.
