Tip runs in Alstonville
Alstonville sits 15 minutes up the hill from our Ballina base, and tip runs Alstonville way usually head straight back down the same hill. The Alstonville Transfer Station on Northcott Crescent is a private Richmond Waste site that's only open Monday to Friday, 6am to 3pm, and doesn't publish prices. We work weekends, so our plateau loads go to the Ballina Resource Recovery Centre instead: open 8am to 4pm seven days, household mixed waste $34.60 per 100 kg for 2026/27 (checked August 2026), which makes a full 6x4 trailer from an Alstonville garage roughly $105 to $120 at the gate. For big self-sorted loads Lismore's tip is 25 minutes the other way at $300 a tonne, and we'll use whichever works out cheaper for you.
Rubbish removal Alstonville is mostly about life changes. The plateau has several large retirement villages and a lot of long-held family homes, so we get downsizing moves where a four-bedroom house has to fit into a two-bedroom unit, deceased estates handled for family who live away, and the garage full of thirty years of stuff. On the rural-residential edge around Rous Mill, Tuckombil and the macadamia blocks it's the farm shed: old fencing wire, a dead mower, fertiliser drums, the timber offcuts from a deck that was rebuilt years ago. Sorted scrap metal goes free at Ballina, which brings those loads down.
Hedge trimmings and garden waste are the other regular. Plateau blocks are bigger and greener than the coast, and green waste at $8.90 per 100 kg is the cheapest load we do. Wollongbar next door is covered at the same price.
What Ballina Shire Council will and won't take
Alstonville is in Ballina Shire, which has no kerbside bulky-waste collection and no tip vouchers. Bins only. For anything larger it's a trip to the Ballina tip (household waste by weight, free sorted scrap and e-waste, no asbestos or chemicals) or the weekday-only private transfer station in Alstonville. Nature-strip dumping is fined in the shire.
Reuse before you dump
- The Salvage Shed at the Ballina tip is the nearest tip shop, open Tue to Fri 8.30am to 3.30pm and weekends 10am to 3pm. Good furniture, tools and kitchenware from downsizing moves go there first.
- Lismore Revolve Shop at the Lismore tip (Wed and Fri 9am to 2pm, Sat 9am to 1pm) is the alternative when we're heading that way.

Can't I just use the Alstonville transfer station myself?
You can on a weekday if you've got a trailer. It's a private Richmond Waste site on Northcott Crescent, open Monday to Friday 6am to 3pm, closed weekends, and pricing isn't published. If you're working during the week or don't have a tow vehicle, we come out on the weekend, load it and take it down to Ballina. The gate fee is in our price.
Do you do retirement village and downsizing moves in Alstonville?
Yes, it's a big part of our Alstonville work. We come out before or after the removalist, price the leftovers in front of you, and clear what isn't going to the new place. Anything in good nick goes to the Salvage Shed rather than the tip. Family members organising from interstate can book us by phone and we'll send photos when it's done.
Will you clear a farm shed or macadamia block?
We will. Acreage sheds around Rous Mill and Tuckombil are typically a mix of scrap metal, old fencing, timber, drums and general junk. We sort on site: metal goes free at Ballina, timber and general rubbish by weight. Chemical drums and fuel can't go to the tip and we'll tell you what to do with those. Long driveways and gates are no drama for a ute and trailer.
Is Wollongbar covered at the same price?
Yes. Wollongbar is next door and 18 km from Ballina, so it sits in the base band, from $140. The newer estates and the SCU campus end are all fine. If you're in Wollongbar and closer to Lismore than Ballina, we might use the Lismore tip instead, but your price doesn't change.
