Tip runs in Brunswick Heads

Brunswick Heads sits right at the river mouth between Ocean Shores and Byron Bay, and half the village seems to be mid-renovation at any given moment. The old fibro holiday cottages are getting stripped back one by one, and every reno leaves the same trail behind it: a carport full of offcuts, a dead kitchen on the verandah, a garden flattened to make room for the new deck. That's the work we're built for. We're two young blokes from Ballina running tip runs Brunswick Heads locals can actually book on a weekend — Saturday and Sunday, 7am to 5pm, when you're home to point at the pile.

The job is simple from your end. We come out, look at the pile in person — no photo-quote guesswork — give you a fixed price on the spot with the tip fee already in it, and if you're happy we load the 6x4 trailer then and there. The village's tight streets and skinny driveways don't bother a trailer the way they bother a skip truck, and all the lifting is on us.

From Brunswick Heads it's a short haul — about 15 minutes up Gulgan Road to the Byron Resource Recovery Centre at Myocum, where every load ends up. That run matters more than it sounds, because Myocum only opens 8:30 to 11:30 on weekend mornings. Miss the window and your rubbish sits around for another week. We plan Brunswick jobs around it so you never have to think about it.

Caravan park cabin clear-outs, end-of-lease holiday rentals, deceased estates, green waste, the shed nobody has opened since 2019 — if it fits on a trailer, we'll quote it. For rubbish removal Brunswick Heads wide, from the footbridge end to the back streets, one call gets you a free quote with no obligation attached.

What Byron Shire Council will and won't take

Byron Shire runs no kerbside bulky-waste collection — there's no council pile-day coming to save you, so anything big has to be carted. The Myocum tip takes general mixed waste at $39.50 per 100 kg for 2026/27, the dearest rate in the region, plus flat fees for the awkward stuff: $40 for a double or larger mattress, $50 for a fridge or air-con. Some streams are free — e-waste, gas bottles, paint, fluoro tubes, household batteries and oils. Byron Shire also gives every residential property two $50 waste vouchers a year (the rates notice is the voucher; tenants need an owner-signed form), but they're household-only and can't be handed over to an operator like us — use them yourself on a self-haul or they go to waste.

Reuse before you dump

  • List usable furniture on Facebook Marketplace or the local Buy Nothing group first — holiday-rental furniture moves fast around Brunswick Heads.
  • Working whitegoods often go free-to-good-home the same day, which beats paying the $50 fridge fee at Myocum.
  • E-waste, paint, gas bottles, fluoro tubes, batteries and oils are all free to drop at Myocum — keep them separate from the mixed load and we'll keep them separate too.
  • Sound timber, pavers and old hardware from cottage renos get snapped up by other renovators; worth a quick photo online before it hits the trailer.

Brunswick Heads questions

My cottage reno turned up old fibro sheeting — can you take it?

No. Fibro in older Brunswick Heads cottages very often contains asbestos, and we're not licensed to handle it, so we won't load it — not even double-wrapped and taped. You need a licensed asbestos removalist for that, and it's genuinely worth doing properly. Once the fibro is dealt with, we're happy to take everything else from the reno.

Why is Brunswick Heads dearer than your Ballina-side prices?

Because Byron Shire's tip charges more than anywhere else in the region — mixed waste at Myocum is $39.50 per 100 kg this financial year. Every price we quote has the tip fee built in, so Byron-side jobs carry that loading: single items start at $155 and a full heaped trailer runs $370–425. The full breakdown is on our pricing page.

The Myocum tip only opens weekend mornings — does that affect my booking?

It shapes the schedule, not the price. Myocum runs 8:30–11:30am on Saturdays and Sundays, so we book Brunswick Heads pickups early and have the load over the weighbridge before close. Afternoon pickups still work — we cart the load back and it goes in on our next morning run.

Can I put my Byron Shire waste vouchers toward your fee?

Unfortunately no. The two $50 vouchers each residential property gets per year are tied to the household and can't be transferred to us. They're still worth using — rates notice in hand, they take real money off a self-haul load. If you're renting, you'll need a form signed by the owner before the tip will accept them at all.
