Tip runs in Ballina

Ballina is home base, so tip runs Ballina way are the ones we can fit in at short notice, often the same day you call. Everything we collect on the island, in East or West Ballina or out at Cumbalum goes straight to the Ballina Resource Recovery Centre on Southern Cross Drive in West Ballina. It's five to ten minutes from most streets in town, which is why a small job here can be loaded and gone inside an hour.

The tip is open 8am to 4pm seven days (closed public holidays), and because we work weekends that suits us fine. Gate fees are by weight: household mixed waste is $34.60 per 100 kg for 2026/27 (checked August 2026), so a full 6x4 trailer of mixed rubbish, roughly 300 to 350 kg, costs about $105 to $120 at the weighbridge. Green waste is $8.90 per 100 kg, and sorted scrap metal and e-waste are free. That gate fee is built into every price we quote, so there are no surprises when we get back. Fridges and aircon units are the one catch: $40 each unless they've been degassed, which we sort out.

Ballina has the oldest median age in the region, and a lot of our rubbish removal Ballina work looks exactly like that: retirees downsizing out of the family home, garages that haven't been cleared since the kids left, and the odd deceased estate where the family lives interstate and needs it done properly. The newer estates at Cumbalum and Ballina Heights are the other end of it, with moving boxes, landscaping off-cuts and the old couch that didn't survive the move. There's no kerbside bulky pickup and no tip vouchers in Ballina Shire, so it's your trailer or ours.

What Ballina Shire Council will and won't take

Ballina Shire Council does not run a kerbside bulky-waste or council clean-up, and it does not issue tip vouchers. Your red bin is it. Anything bigger than the bin has to be driven to the Ballina Resource Recovery Centre, which takes most household and builders' waste by weight but refuses asbestos, chemicals, fuel and sharps. Leaving furniture on the nature strip in Ballina counts as illegal dumping.

Reuse before you dump

  • The Salvage Shed at the Ballina tip (council-run since February 2026) takes usable furniture, tools and household bits. Open Tuesday to Friday 8.30am to 3.30pm and weekends 10am to 3pm. If it's good enough to sell, we'll drop it there instead of over the weighbridge.
  • Community Recycling Centre at the same site takes paint, gas bottles, batteries, oils and fluoro tubes free (household quantities).

Ballina questions

Does my rubbish actually go to the Ballina tip?

Yes. Anything we pick up in Ballina goes to the Ballina Resource Recovery Centre on Southern Cross Drive unless there's a cheaper or better home for it, like the Salvage Shed for furniture that's still usable or free scrap-metal drop-off for whitegoods. You can ask to see the weighbridge docket for your load. We don't cart Ballina loads to Lismore or Byron.

Can you do a same-day tip run in Ballina?

Usually, because Ballina is where we're based and the tip is ten minutes away. We work weekends, 7am to 5pm. Call or text in the morning and if there's a gap we'll come out, price it in front of you with the quoting app, and take it then and there. Bigger jobs like a full garage are better booked a day or two ahead.

Why does the tip charge $40 for my old fridge?

Ballina's tip charges $40 per fridge or aircon unit unless the refrigerant gas has been removed and it comes with a degas certificate, in which case it goes in the free scrap-metal pile. We handle that side of it for you, so a fridge on our trailer is just the fridge add-on, no gate surprise.

Is there a minimum job size in Ballina?

No minimum load, just a from-price of $140 for a single item because the trip, the two of us and the gate fee are the same whether it's one mattress or five. If you've got more than one thing, bundle it into the same run and the trailer-fraction pricing works out cheaper per item.
