Nimbin is more than ~25 km from Ballina, so each line includes the $30 travel loading. Every price includes the two of us, loading, tip fees and a sweep-up. Heavy or dense loads are priced on site the same way.
Tip runs in Nimbin
Nimbin is the far edge of our run. We're two blokes based in Ballina, and the drive up past Lismore and into the hills takes a good 45 minutes each way, so the village and the blocks around it sit in our furthest price band: single items from $170, and the trailer loads in the table below carry a $30 travel loading over our Ballina prices. We'd rather say that straight than bury it in a quote. It's the longest drive we do, and the extra covers fuel and hours on the road, nothing else.
Rubbish removal Nimbin means acreage work more than kerbside work. The typical job is the pile that's been growing beside the shed on a bush block or a multiple-occupancy community for years: rusted roofing iron, a dead washing machine, coils of fence wire, a couch that's been out in the weather, star pickets, the remains of a chook run. It never leaves because shifting it needs a trailer, two sets of hands and a full morning — exactly the tip run Nimbin blocks generate and nobody gets around to. That's the job we built the business on. You point, we load, and the pile is gone the same day.
Access is the other thing that makes Nimbin different. Plenty of driveways out here are steep, winding and greasy after rain. We'll get the trailer as close to the pile as we safely can, and where we can't back in, we carry — that's part of loading, not an extra.
Every load goes to the Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre at 313 Wyrallah Road, East Lismore, about half an hour back down the hill. It charges by the tonne and rewards sorting: for 2026/27, unsorted mixed household waste is $410 a tonne, while a self-sorted load that's at least half recoverable is $300 a tonne. We sort as we load, so your rubbish crosses the weighbridge at the cheaper rate, and that saving is already in the fixed quote we give on site before we lift a thing. We run weekends only, Saturday and Sunday 7am to 5pm — which suits the tip too, since its weekend gates are open 9am to 4pm.
What Lismore City Council will and won't take
Nimbin sits in the Lismore City Council area, and council runs no kerbside bulky-waste collection — there's no annual pile-on-the-verge pickup coming. What it offers instead is $82 household waste vouchers: two per household per financial year, each valid for 30 days, drawn from a capped pool of 5,000 a year that can run out. The vouchers work at both the Lismore tip and the Nimbin Transfer Station, but they're household-only and can't be handed to us to use on your load. If you've got one spare and a way to cart things yourself, use it. The Lismore site also takes paint, oils, batteries and gas bottles free at its Community Recycling Centre, along with e-waste and a Return & Earn on site.
Reuse before you dump
Nimbin moves second-hand goods better than most towns, so it's worth a pass over the pile before we take it:
- Op shops in and around the village take clean, working furniture, clothes and homewares — a phone call first saves a wasted carry.
- Community noticeboards and local online give-away groups clear working goods fast; a "free, come get it" listing will often halve a pile before the weekend.
- Paint, oils, household batteries, gas bottles and e-waste are free to drop at the Community Recycling Centre at the Lismore tip — put them aside and we'll take them in with the load at no gate cost.
- Eligible drink containers are worth 10c each at the Return & Earn at the same site.

Why does Nimbin cost $30 more than your Ballina prices?
Distance, plainly. Nimbin is 45-plus minutes from our Ballina base, and after loading we've still got the run back to the Lismore tip and home again, so a Nimbin job carries the most driving of anything we do. The $30 loading covers that fuel and time and nothing else — tip fees, loading, sorting and the two of us are all in the price, same as every other town.
Should I just use the Nimbin Transfer Station myself?
If you've got a ute or trailer and the load's small, honestly, yes — it's local and council-run, and an unused $82 voucher works there. Where we earn our keep is the load that needs a trailer, two sets of hands and a full morning: we do the lifting, the drive and the gate fee, and you see the fixed price on site before we start.
Can you get up a steep or rough track?
Usually. In the dry we'll have a go at most Nimbin driveways, and where we can't back the trailer to the pile we carry everything out by hand to wherever we can park safely — that's included, not an extra. If a track is genuinely beyond the vehicle after rain, we'll say so and rebook rather than sit bogged in your paddock. Quotes are free and done on site, so access gets priced by looking at it, not guessed from photos over the phone.
Do you take green waste from bush blocks?
Yes, and it pays to keep it separate: green waste crosses the Lismore weighbridge at $120 a tonne against $410 for unsorted mixed waste, and mattresses are $39 each on top. If green is mixed through the pile we'll split it out as we load anyway, because that's how the load qualifies for the cheaper sorted rate. Big vegetation clearing jobs are beyond a 6x4 trailer, but prunings, branches and a season's worth of garden mess are bread and butter.
