What a 6x4 trailer load costs here

6x4 trailer, ~350 kg mixed household waste — about ~$142 (unverified rate) at the gate.

Councils quote per 100 kg, not per trailer, so we did the sum. That's the gate fee only — add fuel, your time and the queue.

Getting there

The Casino tip is the Nammoona Waste and Resource Recovery Facility on Dargaville Drive, about eight minutes out of Casino. It's open 8.30am–4.30pm seven days a week, closed public holidays. Phone 02 6662 6580. The Community Recycling Centre, drumMUSTER and a Return and Earn point are on site. The tip shop runs limited hours — Thursday and Saturday 10–2 in the second and third weeks of the month, with a trial of one extra Saturday a month from June 2026.

Richmond Valley also runs the Evans Head Transfer Station on the coast, on the same fee schedule.

Before you go

Richmond Valley prices by weight over the weighbridge and also lists per-load rates for small vehicles. The figures below come from the council's 2026/27 Revenue Policy and haven't been hand-checked line by line, so treat them as a guide and ring ahead if a few dollars matters.

Figures as extracted, August 2026:

  • General mixed waste: about $405 a tonne, minimum about $17. Per load: car about $36, ute about $76, trailer about $124.
  • Green waste: about $129 a tonne.
  • Mattresses: about $40 each.
  • Fridges and whitegoods: about $34 each (free with a degassing certificate at most tips — ask).
  • Car tyres: about $12 each.
  • Free: e-waste, scrap metal, cardboard, Community Recycling Centre problem waste (paint, oils, batteries, gas bottles), container deposit returns, drumMUSTER chemical drums.
  • Vouchers: none found on the council site. Free drop-off was offered after Cyclone Alfred in March 2025 only.
  • Council cleanup: Richmond Valley's website shows no kerbside bulky-waste pickup.

Sort scrap metal and e-waste out before you get there — both are free here, and a farm-shed load around Casino is often half metal.

What a trailer load costs here

A level 6x4 trailer of mixed household junk is about 350 kg. On the per-tonne rate that's 0.35 t × $405 = about $142 at the gate (figures as extracted, August 2026). The council also lists a per-load trailer rate of about $124, so a lighter or level trailer may be charged that way instead — ask at the weighbridge which is cheaper for your load. Heaped, around 500 kg, is about $203 by weight. The same trailer of green waste is 0.35 t × $129 = about $45.

Pull 100 kg of scrap and e-waste out and it's free — you'd pay on 250 kg, about $101.

That's the gate only, plus the drive and the loading. Or it's from $170 and we do it — both of us, all the lifting, sorted so the metal goes in free, tip fee included, priced on site in front of you.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Casino tip open on weekends?

Yes. Nammoona is open 8.30am to 4.30pm seven days a week, closed on public holidays. That makes it one of the more flexible tips in the region — Byron's Myocum tip is weekend mornings only, and Evans Head is closed Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Does Richmond Valley Council do tip vouchers?

Not as far as the council's website shows. Lismore ($82) and Byron ($50) issue vouchers; Richmond Valley and Ballina don't. There's no scheduled kerbside bulky-waste collection listed either, so a private tip run is the option if you can't haul it yourself.

Can I take a fridge or scrap metal to Nammoona for free?

Scrap metal and e-waste are free. Fridges and whitegoods are listed at about $34 each in the revenue policy; a degassing certificate usually makes them free as scrap, so ring 02 6662 6580 and ask before you load one. Tyres are about $12 each for a car tyre.
