Tip runs in Wollongbar
Wollongbar sits up on the plateau between Alstonville and Lismore, red soil underfoot and about fifteen minutes from our base in Ballina. We do tip runs Wollongbar to the Ballina Resource Recovery Centre on Southern Cross Drive every weekend: load at your place Saturday or Sunday, then down the hill to the gate. The tip is open 8am to 4pm seven days, and for 2026/27 mixed household waste costs $34.60 per 100 kg (checked August 2026). A heaped 6x4 trailer weighs roughly 300 to 350 kg, so the gate fee on a full mixed load is about $105 to $120, and that's inside our price, not added on top.
The work from Wollongbar has its own shape. The newer estates send us new-build leftovers: pallet timber, broken pavers and besser blocks, plasterboard offcuts, the cardboard mountain that comes with a house lot of appliances. Bricks and concrete are worth keeping separate, because the tip charges sorted masonry at $22.60 per 100 kg instead of the mixed rate. The older streets near the sports fields are where the downsizer jobs come from — a garage or spare room that has been full since the kids moved out, cleared in a morning. And with the TAFE campus in the village there is steady rental churn, so we get end-of-lease clear-outs where the place has to be empty by Sunday night.
The other constant is garden waste. Wollongbar's red-soil blocks grow like nothing else on our run, and green waste under 300mm goes through the gate at $8.90 per 100 kg, a quarter of the mixed rate, so keep the prunings separate from the general pile and the job gets cheaper. Rubbish removal Wollongbar is priced off the same base band as Ballina: single items from $140 and a full heaped trailer at the top of the standard table. Quotes are free and done on site — we don't quote from photos — and we work weekends only, 7am to 5pm.
What Ballina Shire Council will and won't take
Wollongbar is Ballina Shire, and the shire runs no kerbside bulky collection and issues no tip vouchers — it's the red bin or a trip down to the Ballina tip. The tip takes household waste, green waste, builders' waste and sorted metal; asbestos, chemicals and fuel are out. Sorted scrap metal is free to drop (whitegoods need their degas certificate), and so are e-waste and car batteries. Household quantities of paint, gas bottles, oils and fluoro tubes go free through the Community Recycling Centre on the same site. Dumping on a nature strip or a bush block earns a council fine in Wollongbar the same as anywhere else in the shire.
Reuse before you dump
- The Salvage Shed at the Ballina tip (Tue to Fri 8.30am to 3.30pm, weekends 10am to 3pm) takes usable furniture and tools. Decent downsizer pieces go there instead of the pit, and it costs nothing.
- Ballina Community Recycling Centre (same site) takes household quantities of paint, gas bottles, batteries, oils and fluoro tubes free.
- Sorted scrap metal and e-waste are free at the gate, so we keep whitegoods and old electronics separate on the trailer.
Also servicing around Wollongbar
We cover the whole village and the estates at the Wollongbar price: the older streets around the sports fields, the newer subdivisions, the TAFE end of town, and the rural blocks between Wollongbar and Alstonville. Wollongbar questions
Do you take building offcuts from new builds in Wollongbar?
Yes — offcut timber, plasterboard, broken pavers, packaging, the lot. If there's brick or concrete in the pile, keep it separate: the Ballina tip charges sorted masonry at $22.60 per 100 kg against $34.60 mixed, and the saving comes off your quote. We quote on site, so have the pile where we can see it.
Is Wollongbar the same price as Ballina?
Yes. Wollongbar sits inside our base band, so it's the same table as Ballina, starting from $140 for a single item up to a full heaped 6x4 trailer. The fifteen minutes up the hill doesn't cost you anything extra. Tip fees are included in every price we give.
Can you clear a rental near the TAFE by the end of the weekend?
That's a job we do a lot. Text us the address and a rough idea of what's there, we'll come and quote on site, and most end-of-lease loads are gone the same day. We work Saturday and Sunday 7am to 5pm, which is exactly when most handovers happen. If the place has to be empty Monday morning, say so and we'll book you in early.
What do you do with a big pile of garden waste on a Wollongbar block?
Keep it separate from the general rubbish if you can, because green waste under 300mm goes through the Ballina gate at $8.90 per 100 kg instead of $34.60 — the difference between an expensive load and a cheap one. Fronds, prunings, hedge trimmings and clippings are all fine. Big stumps and logs cost more at the gate, so mention them when you text.
