Tip runs in Byron Bay

Byron Bay loads go to the Byron Resource Recovery Centre at Myocum, 15 minutes out along Ewingsdale Road and up The Manse Road. Tip runs Byron Bay are shaped by two facts about that tip. First, it's the dearest gate in the region: general mixed waste is $39.50 per 100 kg for 2026/27 with an $18 minimum (checked August 2026), so a full 6x4 trailer of mixed rubbish, around 300 to 350 kg, runs about $120 to $140 before you add mattresses ($40 each) or fridges ($50). Second, the weekend hours are short: Saturday and Sunday it's open 8.30am to 11.30am only, closed every public holiday. That's why we start Byron jobs early. A pile that's loaded by 10am is at the weighbridge before the gate shuts; one that's loaded at midday sits on the trailer until Monday.

Rubbish removal Byron Bay is mostly turnover work. Holiday lets and Airbnbs in Sunrise, Suffolk and the CBD get us between bookings for the broken outdoor lounge, the bags that didn't fit the bins and the mattress a guest wrecked. Property managers book standing runs. Then there's the strata and unit-block side of town, where a couch has to come down three flights and out a shared driveway, and the renovation offcuts from the endless kitchen and bathroom work. The Arts and Industry Estate gives us small-business clear-outs: shopfit rubbish, old stock, pallets.

Access is the local problem. Wategos and the streets up the Cape are steep, Belongil is narrow and sandy, the CBD lanes have no parking and Ewingsdale Road crawls from mid-morning in holiday season. We plan the pickup time around that, which is another reason for the early start.

What Byron Shire Council will and won't take

Byron Shire Council has no kerbside bulky-waste collection. Instead, each rateable property gets two $50 waste vouchers a year to use at the Myocum tip, and residents can book the council's free 8x5 trailer on weekdays (pick up 8.30am, back by 2pm, you tow it). The tip takes furniture, mattresses, whitegoods, green waste and reno waste but refuses asbestos and liquids. Leaving stuff on the nature strip in Byron is treated as illegal dumping, with fines up to $4,000.

Reuse before you dump

  • The Re-Market tip shop at the Myocum tip takes furniture, homewares and building bits that are still usable. Good holiday-let furniture usually ends up here rather than in the pit.
  • Byron Community Recycling Centre (same site) takes paint, gas bottles, batteries, oils and e-waste free.

Byron Bay questions

Why is Byron Bay dearer than Ballina?

Two reasons. The Myocum tip charges $39.50 per 100 kg with an $18 minimum against Ballina's $34.60, and it's 30 km from our Ballina base. Byron Shire jobs start from $155 instead of $140. You still get the same two of us, the loading, the gate fee and the sweep-up, and the price is built in front of you with the quoting app before anything's touched.

Can you clear a holiday let between guests?

Yes, that's a lot of what we do in Byron. Give us the check-out and check-in times and a key or lockbox code and we'll fit the run in between. We take the bulky stuff the cleaners can't: mattresses, broken furniture, overflow bags, the barbecue. Property managers with several places can set up a standing weekend run.

Should I just borrow the Byron council trailer instead?

If you've got a tow vehicle, a free weekday and can lift it all yourself, the council's free 8x5 trailer plus your $50 vouchers is the cheapest way. If you work weekdays, don't have a towbar, or it's heavy, that's where we come in: weekends, two of us, all loading done, gate fee included.

Can you get into a unit block or a CBD lane?

Usually. A ute and 6x4 trailer fits where a truck won't, and we've done plenty of Byron lanes and three-storey walk-ups. Tell us about stairs, shared driveways and parking when you text and we'll pick a time when we can actually stop out the front. If we have to carry a long way it's priced on site the same way as everything else.
